Found Animals

The Animal Services Division works very hard at getting lost pets back to their owners. City Ordinance requires all individuals who find an at-large pet to report such finding to Animal Services within twenty-four (24) hours.  The animal does not have to be turned over to Animal Services if you are willing to care for the animal until the owner can be located, but the following information must be reported:

• The date, zip code and major cross streets where the animal was found.
• Breed of animal if known
• Color of animal
• Sex of the animal
• Collar type and type of tags
• Any other characteristics of the animal
• Your name, address and phone numbers. Please state if you give permission to give the possible owner your phone number in order that they can contact you.

We also ask that you bring the animal to the shelter or to a local veterinary clinic so that it can be scanned for a microchip.  Please be advised that according to City Ordinances, you are rebuttably presumed to be the owner of said animal after seventy-two (72) hours of it being in your possession and will be responsible to abide by all City Ordinances and State Laws, including rabies vaccination and city license requirements.  Finders can also bring the animal to our shelter anytime during our regular adoption hours, or they can request that an Officer pick the animal up from their residence.
