Fire Trucks Roll Out of Plano's New Fire Station

On Wednesday, December 30, 2009, Plano Fire Department crews made the move into their new Fire Station #12.  Though the Station hasn’t had the ‘official’ grand opening, personnel have begun responding to emergency calls from this new location at 4101 West Parker Road in Plano.

Fire Station #12 houses a fire engine, ambulance, a utility (light and air) vehicle, and Battalion Chief.  Eight fire department personnel will work out of the site each day.  Funds to construct Station 12 were approved by voters in the 2005 Bond Referendum.

Two other buildings at the site, a fire logistics warehouse and the William E. Peterson Emergency Operations Center, will be completed and occupied within the next few months.

A dedication ceremony will be scheduled when all three buildings are finished and fire personnel are in place.  Visit the Plano Fire Department website (www.planofire.org) for information about the ceremony planned for early 2010.

Why does the Department charge an ambulance transport fee to tax-paying citizens?
The Department charges $600 for residents of Plano and $700 for non-residents, plus $10 per mile from the emergency
scene to the medical facility. The patient's medical insurance will usually pay this fee which is set in accordance with
national ambulance standards. If we did not recover this from the people who use this service, this part of our operation
would have to be funded entirely with tax revenue resulting in greater taxes for all citizens.
