A. Heritage Farmstead* ** ***
15th Street at Pitman Drive
This four-acre museum preserves a way of life during the height of farm prosperity in the early 1900's. The beautiful Victorian home and 12 outbuildings were the hub of a 360 acre farm operated by a colorful local resident, Ammie Wilson. The museum is open to the public and guided tours are available. B. Skaggs General Store
US 75 north of Parker Road
This building was originally built as a gas station/general store during the 1930s and was located on Avenue K. In 1989, the Haggard family acquired the building and moved it to Fairview Farms Marketplace. The building was fully restored and reopened in January, 1990, as an antique shop and general store. The Fairview Farms area combines a mixture of historic featuers with a farmer's market.
C. Wells Homestead
3921 Coit Road
This home has remained in the Wells family since it was built in 1893. Efforts are currently underway to restore it to its former splendor.
Historic Plano Cemeteries
Several cemeteries in the Plano area have gravesites dating back to the 1840's. The following is a list of some of the historic cemeteries in Plano.
D. Baccus Cemetery**
Located at the northwest corner of Bishop Road and Legacy Drive. Also known as the
"Cook Cemetery", this cemetery has the oldest marked gravesite (January, 1847) in Plano.
E. Bethany Cemetery
Located at the norhtwest corner of Custer and Clothes Road.
F. Bowman Cemetery*
Located in the 2700 block of Oak Grove Drive (Enter from the alley).
G. Collinsworth Graves
Located southeast of Parker Road at Preston Road. Thirty people of the same family
died of smallpox in 1895 and were buried there.
H. Leach-Thomas Cemetery
Located southwest of Chaparral Road at Jupiter Road.
I. Old City Cemetery**
Located in the 1100 block of Avenue H. Also called the "Pioneer Cemetery", many of Plano's first families were buried here.
J. Plano Mutual Cemetery
Located at the northwest corner of 18th Street and Jupiter Road. Includes the "Forman Cemetery". This cemetery also contains graves of prominent early families. For more information contact 972-424-4511.
K. Rowlett Creek Cemetery**
Located on custer Road, south of S.H. 121. The Old Settlers Reunion was held here until 1910. This is the largest of the rural cemeteries.
L. Shepard Ranch Graves
Located on Park Boulevard, one mile west of Preston Road. Family records indicate
many burials on Shepard land (including that of a horse thief who was hanged), but there are only three marked gravesites.
M. Young Cemetery
Located south of Yeary Road. This cemetery contains the second oldest marked gravesite (February, 1847) in Plano.
