1st Choice Neighborhoods

Mission Statement

The 1st Choice Neighborhoods Program is dedicated to instilling P.R.I.D.E. in Plano Communities.  We will do our best to:

     Provide opportunities to enhance neighborhood quality of life;
     Revitalize neighborhoods to reflect individual character;
     Involve stakeholders in resolving common issues;
     Demonstrate commitment to neighborhood stability; and
     Encourage participation in the planning process.

Through P.R.I.D.E., the 1st Choice Neighborhoods Program will strive to address the changing needs and  demands of the City of Plano.

Program Overview

Over the past fifty years, Plano has been home to the fastest growing population in the Dallas Ft. Worth Metroplex. Careful city planning for the future helped to guide growth and development, resulting in the City we know today. However, the City of Plano is approaching its growth capacity, and the focus of planning efforts has shifted from future growth and development to redevelopment and revitalization.

One key element in developing strategies for redevelopment and revitalization is the 1st Choice Neighborhoods Program.  Recognizing Plano as a city in transition, in 1998 the Plano City Council established the 1st Choice Neighborhoods Program (formerly known as Neighborhood Planning) with the following goals in mind:

  • Guide redevelopment and revitalization.
  • Provide opportunities to improve the quality of life.
  • Protect neighborhood residences and existing businesses from decline.
  • Coordinate services by bringing attention, focus and problem-solving resources to neighborhoods.

Today, the 1st Choice Neighborhoods program strives to enhance Plano neighborhoods through a collaborative partnership process between community volunteers and various city departments to obtain long-lasting and tangible results.
