The Story of Drinking Water

Presentations
All the Water in the World
This presentation takes a global approach to water resources. Because water in our area is so abundant, it may appear that there is an endless supply but that is certainly not the case. We will explore earth’s fresh (drinking) water resources and observe a working model of the water cycle that demonstrates how water is recycled.
Where does Plano’s drinking water come from?
A comprehensive, hands-on demonstration that identifies Plano’s water source and the treatment process that turns it into drinking water. Students will build a working “water purification model” using safe and inexpensive materials. The class will participate in the processes of aeration, coagulation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection. All materials will be provided.
Supply & Demand
A scale model of a water tower is used to help demonstrate how water is delivered to our homes, schools and businesses. This presentation also includes information on Plano’s first water system and the growth in demand for drinking water over the past 45 years.
EnviroScape Water Pollution Model
This interactive presentation tracks pollution on a scale model community from residential areas, construction sites, agricultural areas and commercial sources. Pollution is visually apparent when rain falling over the landscape carries soil, chemicals and oil through a watershed to a drinking water source.
