2010 Census Forms Arrive Next Week

Next week 104,000 Plano homes will receive the 2010 Census forms.  It’s the shortest form ever with only 10 questions and it should take only 10 minutes to complete. The official Census Day is April 1, but forms can be returned anytime before April 15.  Addresses that don’t return a form by April 15 may receive a personal visit from a census taker starting in May.

Questions focus on basic demographic information such as name, age, race and home ownership.  The census form does not ask for social security numbers or tax, income or banking information.  Information collected is confidential and protected by law and is only presented in an aggregate format such as a population count. Feel free to ask a census taker to confirm their identity by showing their official identification badge.  For questions about census activity in your neighborhood, contact the U.S. Census Bureau’s Dallas Regional office at (214) 253-4400 or (800) 835-9752.

More than $400 billion of federal funding is distributed through 180 programs based on the census figures. Help our community receive its fair share. Please complete and return your 2010 Census form. Click here for more information.

City Aids Residents with Flood Insurance Amendment Letters

Flood zones are geographic areas the Federal Emergency Management Agency has defined according to varying levels of flood risk.  These zones are depicted on a community’s Flood Insurance Rate Map, with each zone reflecting the severity or type of flooding in the area.  If a flood map indicates a property is located in a flood zone, flood insurance is required on the mortgaged property.

Taller poles for MOTOMESHCity Installs Taller Utility Poles in Plano Neighborhoods

Residents may be surprised to find crews installing taller poles in some of Plano’s residential areas.  Existing decorative poles did not reach the required 25 to 30 foot heights needed to accommodate the City’s MOTOMESH wireless network.  The poles have been strategically assigned to locations within the City right of way to provide a line of sight configuration for adequate system coverage.

When fully implemented, the MOTOMESH network will serve as a highly-integrated mobile broadband technology system to aid with public safety and City services.  Departments such as Police and Fire will be able to access crime and health information remotely as well as submit reports from the field, saving both fuel and time costs.

Citizens with questions can contact David Stephens, Director of Technology Services, at (972) 941-7660.
